DESIGN GOALS
The clients had decided to add a master suite on the ground floor of their existing home over looking the lake. The construction was well under way when Celilo Gardens was asked to design a new landscape surrounding the new structure and revitalize a few other areas of the existing gardens. |
CHALLENGES
Because the back of the house has a commanding view of the lake, care had to be taken to protect the view when designing a new landscape. And the new landscape design needed to blend seamlessly into the existing gardens—no broad strokes, no bold departures from the character of the existing gardens. The soil had been scaped clean during construction and needed heavy amending. The landscape irrigation system and the exterior lighting had been interrupted by the construction and needed redesigning to accommodate the new plant plan. |
SOLUTION
The existing mature trees were used to frame the plantings forming gracious views. Plants were chosen not only for color, texture and resilience but for at least 3 seasons of interest. Leaf texture and color was as important as the structure and bloom times of the plants. Because the view was to be enjoyed year-round, the plants had to be attractive year-round also. Lighting was designed to be functional and quiet rather than dramatic so not the compete with the view. |
